by Rick Black (Arlington, VA)
Three steps backward,
three steps forward,
I bend my knees.
I struggle to part my lips,
to recite the words,
to offer praise.
Let me taste rain.
Let me hear windchimes at night.
Let me inhale jasmine.
How grateful I am,
a temporary resident
amid night stars.
